Lay out your makeup and toiletries together before choosing the bag. Foundation, mascara and a cream product can use the same limited liquids space as shampoo and toothpaste. Write the container capacity beside each item, then decide what earns a place in the routine you actually plan to use.
Start with the wedding-weekend packing map to identify the welcome dinner, ceremony and next-day plans. Your makeup kit can serve several events without becoming several complete collections.
Rehearse the look before making the list
Whether you are a guest, bride or mother, try your familiar routine once with the events in mind. Put each product and tool to one side as you use it. Those pieces become the starting kit. Include your usual removal and skincare products in the same exercise.
Decide what actually changes between events: perhaps one lip color, rather than another foundation, palette and brush set. If someone else is doing your makeup, confirm what they provide and what you need to bring for touch-ups. Leave untested extras out of the plan.
Use a five-field packing checklist
Copy this checklist into a note and repeat it for every item. The examples below are prompts, not a suggested shopping list. Read the capacity on your actual container; “travel size” is not a measurement.
On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways. For a phone note, repeat: item / format / container capacity / tool needed / event.
| Item | Format | Container capacity | Tool needed | Event where used |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your foundation | Liquid or cream: check yours | ___ mL | Your usual brush or sponge | Ceremony / ___ |
| Your mascara | Liquid | ___ mL | Included wand | Dinner / ceremony |
| Your face powder | Pressed or loose: check yours | ___ g; mark dry format | Your powder brush | ___ |
| Your toothpaste | Paste | ___ mL | Toothbrush | Daily routine |
| ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ | ___ |
List toiletries alongside cosmetics. Mark liquids, creams, gels, pastes and aerosols before deciding where they go. Check uncertain formats and individual tools with the departure airport’s security authority; a product’s name alone may not explain its consistency.
Apply the ordinary US TSA liquids rule
For departures screened by TSA, ordinary carry-on liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes must be in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 mL) or less. All must fit in one quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag, with one bag per passenger. Makeup does not receive a separate allowance from toiletries. Choose by container capacity, not the amount remaining.
The TSA liquids guidance and travel checklist explain the rule and screening preparation. Keep the liquids bag accessible and follow checkpoint instructions. Separate provisions apply to medically necessary liquids; check official guidance if relevant. Meeting the packing rule does not guarantee an item will clear screening.
Give the two bags separate jobs
The screening liquids bag groups the regulated items for your flight. Your destination organizer holds the routine where you get ready, including dry cosmetics and tools. You may transfer products after arrival, then return liquids to the screening bag before the next departure.

If your rehearsal shows that you need an organizer that opens across the getting-ready counter, the BAGSMART flat-open makeup bag in The Belle Edit is one researched option. Compare its current dimensions with your longest brush and tallest bottle. Keep using your existing pouch if it already does the job.

Choose this organizer for access and storage. It is not a substitute for checking the required liquids bag, and should not be treated as “TSA-approved.”
Rehearse packing and the getting-ready counter
Pack the real bottles, palettes and brushes. Check caps, closures and the organizer’s opening without forcing anything shut. Follow product storage directions and allow cleaned tools to dry fully. Measure the space the pouch needs when open, not just its closed footprint.
At arrival, choose a dry working surface and unpack in routine order. Keep the evening touch-up items separate from the full kit. If checkout comes before the ceremony, use the getting-ready kit storage plan to settle where the bag goes afterward.
Recheck every departure, including home
US guidance does not establish another country’s rules. UK government liquids guidance says limits and transparent-bag requirements depend on the airport. Check each departure and any connection where you will pass security, including the return journey.
Before leaving, recheck airport security guidance and your airline’s cabin-baggage limits. Repeat the checklist at the hotel: close containers, repack liquids and account for anything bought during the weekend. Keep the finished list for your next trip.
